Kyra Law is an AI-native commercial law firm focussing on high-growth UK startups and scaleups, from pre-seed through Series B and beyond.
Our belief is simple: the efficiency AI creates should be passed on to our clients. By building a firm from scratch in the age of AI, we have designed an operating system which means our clients pay a fraction of what they would elsewhere, and our lawyers are still paid exceptionally well.
Every matter is fixed-fee, quoted before we start, and most of our work is delivered to clients in hours rather than weeks. Qualified solicitors are available to clients on Slack, email or WhatsApp and they oversee every piece of work, exercising judgment and speaking with clients, while AI handles all the heavy lifting.
We cover the commercial legal work any early-stage company needs, including fundraising, commercial contracts, data & privacy, employment, share options and more. We are constantly pushing towards increasingly complex and novel work.
We have developed our own proprietary AI platform which is the core operating system of the firm. It is constantly learning, building context and refining its output, meaning that we become more efficient with every matter we do.
We are profitable, we have built this without outside funding to date, and we are growing extremely fast. Our clients include startups backed by the likes of a16z and Antler, and we are onboarding multiple new clients every day.
The role
Members of Legal Staff are fee earners. You run your own matters for Kyra clients, you use our platform to do the work, and you are the qualified solicitor exercising judgment on everything that goes out under your name. You speak to clients directly on Slack, email or WhatsApp rather than through anyone else.
The work spans our practice areas: commercial contracts, corporate, fundraising and investment including VC rounds, and the team and equity work that covers employment, contractors and share schemes. You can take a broad range of it or concentrate on the one or two areas you know best. We would far rather have someone outstanding in a narrow field than passable across all of them.
We are genuinely flexible on commitment. Some of our lawyers already run a fractional practice and want Kyra to be a bigger part of it. Others want to give Kyra everything. Full-time, part-time and contracting outside IR35 all work, and you can move between them as your circumstances change.
What you will do
- Run your own matters end to end. You scope the work, agree the fixed fee before anything starts, draft it, and see it through to signature. Every Kyra matter has one qualified solicitor who owns it, and on your matters that is you.
- Work with clients directly. You will build real relationships with founders and their teams instead of drafting behind a partner who takes the call.
- Work across our practice areas, or go deep on one. Commercial contracts, corporate, fundraising and investment (equity and debt, VC rounds, SEIS and EIS), and team and equity, which covers employment contracts, contractor arrangements, IR35 and EMI option schemes. Tell us where you are strongest and we will route work to match.
- Use the platform, and make it better. AI does the heavy lifting on every matter and you supply the judgment. Where it gets something wrong, your feedback is what fixes it, and that loop is the core of the business.
Who we are looking for
- England and Wales qualified, 5+ years PQE. You have been running your own matters for years, and you are comfortable being the last person to look at a document before a client sees it.
- Trained at a major law firm. This is a requirement. We need lawyers who learned to draft somewhere with a high standard and the supervision to enforce it, because we are asking you to hold that standard without the layers of review a big firm puts around it.
- In-house experience. Also a requirement. Having sat on the client side, you know the difference between advice that is technically correct and advice a business can actually act on, and our clients only want the second kind.
- Startup and scaleup experience is preferable, but not required.
- A real view on where AI is taking this profession, and a recognition of both the opportunities and the limitations of the technology. You do not need to have worked with tools like ours before, but you do need to want to.
- Unusually diligent. You read the whole document, not just the parts that changed. Quality is the one thing we will not trade for speed, and at the pace we work that only holds if every lawyer here enforces it themselves.
Compensation
- £100,000 to £200,000, based on the caseload you take on.
- Full-time, part-time, or as a contractor outside IR35. Tell us what commitment you want to make and we will work around it.
- Fully remote.
